# Charts, diagrams and artifacts

> Draw a chart or diagram from a space's memories, or build a page about a space that you can share, from the dashboard's Ask tab.

A space's **Ask** tab answers questions about what the space holds. It also has two
commands that turn those memories into something you can see or send:

* **`/draw`** draws a chart or a diagram in the conversation.
* **`/artifact`** builds a web page about the space, at a link you can share.

Type `/` in the Ask box to see both. Use the arrow keys and Enter to pick one, or keep
typing.

## Draw a chart or diagram

Type `/draw` followed by what you want to see:

```
/draw memories per month
/draw a flowchart of our release process
/draw a mind map of the billing migration
```

You don't always need the command. A question that asks for a visual by name, such as
"a pie chart of…", "a flowchart of…", "visualize…" or "a mind map of…", is drawn
automatically. Everyday words like "plot", "draw up" or "timeline" on their own are
answered as ordinary questions.

**What you get back**

* A **chart** (bar, line, area, pie or scatter) when you ask about numbers.
* A **diagram** (flowchart, sequence, state, mind map or timeline) when you ask about a
  process or a structure.
* A **Copy Mermaid** button, so you can paste the chart or diagram into any tool that
  reads [Mermaid](https://mermaid.js.org), such as GitHub, Notion or the Mermaid Live
  Editor. Scatter charts have no Mermaid equivalent, so they have no button, and
  neither does a pie chart holding a negative value, which Mermaid rejects.

To look at a diagram closely, click it, or the expand button beside **Copy Mermaid**. It
opens fitted to the window. Zoom with the **−** and **+** buttons, with Ctrl or ⌘ and
the scroll wheel, or with the `+`, `-`, `0` (fit) and `1` (actual size) keys, and drag
it, or scroll, to move around. Escape closes it.

Every number, step and label comes from the space's memories. If they don't hold what
you asked for, you get a sentence saying so instead of a made-up chart.

**What it doesn't do**

A drawing is marked **Not saved to memory**: neither your request nor the answer is
recorded in the space. That is also why read-only members of a space can use `/draw`.

**Cost:** one chat turn, the same as asking a question.

## Build an artifact

An artifact is a single web page built from what a space holds: an overview of a
project, a summary of decisions, a status page. It's how you give someone the gist of
a space without giving them access to the space.

Type `/artifact` followed by what the page should cover:

```
/artifact a one-page overview of this project for the team
/artifact what we decided about pricing, and why
```

A card appears in the conversation while the page is built. This usually takes one to
two minutes, and you can keep asking questions meanwhile. When it's ready, the card
links to the page, which opens in a new tab.

You also get an email when the page is ready, with a link to it, or, if it couldn't be
built, with the reason. A build that fails is never charged.

**Good to know**

* You need write access to the space. Read-only members can open artifacts others
  share, but can't create them.
* One artifact builds per space at a time.
* An artifact is a snapshot. Memories you add or delete later don't change a page
  that's already built; build a new one instead.

## Share an artifact

Every artifact starts private. Change who can open it from the card in Ask, from the
**Artifacts** tab, or from the page itself:

| Setting | Who can open the link |
| - | - |
| **Only me** | You, signed in. |
| **Everyone in this space** | Anyone who can read the space, signed in. |
| **Anyone with the link** | Anyone, signed in or not. |

Only the space owner can choose **Anyone with the link**. A public page keeps showing
what it was built from, even if those memories are deleted later, so check it before
you send it.

Anyone can open a page someone shared with them, but they can't change it. The person
who built it and the space owner can change its sharing or delete it. Deleting an
artifact breaks its link straight away.

## The Artifacts tab

Each space has an **Artifacts** tab next to **Ask**. It lists every artifact you can
open in the space: what each covers, whether it's still building, built or failed,
and who can open it. From there you can change sharing, copy the link, or delete it.

## What artifacts cost

An artifact is billed for the tokens used to build it, plus a flat 500 credits per
page. Pages so far have cost between about 1,250 and 2,450 credits. A build that
fails costs nothing.

Before a build starts, Anona checks that your balance covers the most the page could
cost: about 3,600 credits for a short request. That is more than a typical page, so
a low balance can be refused even when the page itself would have fit. You can start
up to 10 artifacts an hour.

See [Plans and billing](/guides/plans-and-billing.md) for how credits work.

## Use it from the API

Both features are available over the API with the same keys and spaces:

* [Draw](/api-reference/draw.md): `POST /v1/spaces/{space_id}/graph` returns the chart or
  diagram and its Mermaid source.
* [Artifacts](/api-reference/artifacts.md): create, list, share and delete artifacts.
