# anona-compute fork

> Fork a running sandbox into new sandboxes

> [!NOTE]
>
> Forking freezes the sandbox for a moment while its memory is written (about 0.1 s), then it keeps running with the same ID and lifetime. Each fork is a new sandbox: it counts towards your concurrent-sandbox limit and is billed like any other. `--count` above what your plan has room for is not an error for the whole batch - the forks that fit are made and the rest are reported one by one.

```text theme={null}
Fork a sandbox (POST /sandboxes/{id}/fork): checkpoint it with its memory
and start --count new sandboxes from that checkpoint. Prints one line per fork.
```

## Usage

```text theme={null}
anona-compute fork SANDBOX_ID [flags]
```

## Flags

| Flag | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `--count` | int | number of forks (1-20) (default 1) |
| `--help`, `-h` | | help for fork |
| `--timeout` | string | lifetime of each fork (empty = server default, 15s in the E2B spec) (default "300s") |

Global flags (`--api-key`, `--api-url`, `--json`, `--output`, `--profile`, `--request-timeout`, `--verbose`) work on every command; see [anona-compute](https://docs.anonalabs.com/compute/cli/reference/anona-compute.md).
